How Is The Mock Up Done?
If the dentist is proficient at dental mock ups, it will can be done quickly and easily.
The mock-up procedure which is temporary will use a composite (a tooth colored material), which is then lightly applied to the surface to the natural teeth.
A temporary bonding substance like putty is molded to the teeth where the dental work is going to be done, and then the cosmetic dentist will use a special light that will harden the composite bonding material.
Next the dentist will shape, and polish the edges and the surfaces of the new temporary teeth until they are smooth, polished, and appear natural.
The dentist will then take digital images and send the patient home with the new temporary mock up. The mock up will last a few weeks to a month on the teeth, and this time will allow the patient to "try on" the new look for feel, comfort, and reactions from friends and family.
If the patient and dentist are happy with the mock up "try on", then a final impression or mould is done. This is the mouth mapping that the dentist will use to build the veneers for the patient. The dentist will remove the temporary bonding composite, and replace it with smooth, strong, durable porcelain veneers, crowns or other dental work that was agreed upon by the patient.
